Dry ridge and verge systems

Dry ridge and dry verge systems fix ridge tiles and gable edges mechanically instead of bedding them in mortar, so there is nothing to crack and fall out. We fit them to BS 8612, the British Standard for dry-fixed ridge, hip and verge systems.

Signs to look for

How do you know you need it?

Repeated ridge repairs

If you have re-pointed the ridge more than once, a dry system ends the cycle.

Loose verge tiles

Mortar verges on exposed gables fail quickest. Dry verge caps lock each tile.

Loft condensation

A ventilated dry ridge helps move moist air out of the roof space.

Our approach

How do we do it?

  1. 01

    Check it suits your roof

Dry systems suit most concrete and many clay tile roofs. On some period roofs mortar looks right.

  2. 02

    Fix to the standard

Ridge batten, fixings and seals installed as BS 8612 sets out.

  3. 03

    Matched finish

Ridge tiles and verge caps in colours to suit the roof.

  4. 04

    Photograph the detail

You see every fixing before the caps go on.

Questions

Common questions

What is BS 8612?

The British Standard that sets out how dry-fixed ridge, hip and verge systems should perform and be installed.

Do dry verges look plastic?

Modern systems are neat and colour-matched. On conservation-area homes we may still recommend mortar for appearance.

Can you fit dry ridge on a slate roof?

Yes, with the right system. We will tell you if it suits your roof.
